Fulton celebrates homecoming

FULTON, Ill. — Homecoming is underway in Fulton and the River Bend School District is hard at it to make this year a successful homecoming celebration.

So far, the homecoming committee has seen two successful events for the week — Monday’s powderpuff football game and Tuesday’s freshman and varsity volleyball games, with more planned for the remainder of the week.

“We had a really awesome powderpuff game this year. We changed some things and it went really well,” Student Council President Krista Temple said. “Now, people are really excited to see what we have in store for the pep rally.”

The rally will be held today and will feature the announcement of the 2013 Fulton homecoming king and queen. Student council adviser Jeff Hoese said candidates have been narrowed down and this year promises to be a tough battle for the crown.

“The homecoming race is a tight one right now,” Hoese said. “There are two guys that are battling pretty closely so it will be fun to see the outcome of that.”

Once the king and queen are announced, they will lead the school in commencing the pep rally, lead the parade on Friday and charge the Steamers before Friday night’s homecoming football game.

Both Hoese and Temple feel this year has been a successful homecoming celebration already, and Temple feels it’s because of the school district’s continued work on increasing the school pride within the River Bend District.

“Everyone has been showing their school spirit,” Temple said. “It’s something our school has been working on so it’s a great thing to see.”

If that school spirit continues throughout the week, Hoese has no doubt this year’s homecoming celebration will be the best one he has experienced in his six years as student council adviser.
