Communities to host Easter egg hunts this weekend

Easter treats won’t be hard to find this weekend in Fulton, Ill., and Camanche.

Both communities will hold Easter egg hunts Saturday and Fulton organizer Jolene Sikkema doesn’t expect the candy to last long.

“Once that siren sounds, it takes about 10 minutes to pick up the candy,” Sikkema said.

Sikkema is the coordinator of the event through the Fulton Sparkettes, an auxiliary for the Fulton Fire Department. The group purchased more than $500 worth of candy for the event.

The Camanche Kiwanis Club faces a similar task of providing plenty of candy for area residents.

Camanche Kiwanis member Micah Gearhart said local businesses and community members donate eggs and donate time to fill the eggs.

“It’s a great family outing for individuals to come out and get out in the community,” Gearhart said.

The Camanche hunt features children in grades preschool through fourth, while Fulton allows participants from preschool through fifth grade.

The groups will section off the locations to separate the age groups.

In years past, the Fulton event has garnered approximately 75 to 100 people, but that’s all dependent on one thing — the weather.

“There’s a 40 percent chance of rain, but it sounds like it will be a sporadic rain,” Sikkema said. “We’re hoping it’s just not at 1 p.m.”

The Fulton event will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at 10th Avenue Park in Fulton. The Camanche event will be held at 10 a.m. outside of the Camanche Public Library.
