---- — FULTON, Ill. — The Fulton city streetscape project along Fourth Street is one step closer to construction after city officials approved a bid from Twin City Construction.

Fulton city officials this week announced the approval of a bid from Twin City for $517,85.05 coming in much lower than the three other bidders.

“They don’t have a lot of work and basically they’re hungry for something,” Public Works Director Dan Clark said.

Councilman Randy Boonstra showed concern with the low bid number, but Clark assured him that Twin City is a reliable construction company that has worked in the city before.

“Twin City did our work last year and they did a great job,” Clark said.

Because of the lack of work for the company, Twin City expects to begin surveying the project in the next couple of weeks.

The city engineer estimated $648,915 for the final Fourth Street project but the low bid from Twin City allows the city around $131,055.95 left for other street projects.

According to Clark, alley work and continued sewer inspections are major areas the city needs to further concentrate on, and that extra funding will be a major asset to those future projects.

“What’s really beneficial is that we still have that alley work downtown that we can use those additional monies toward,” Clark said.
