Fillies take control vs. Fulton

Over the weekend, Fulton played three games in its own tournament (and granted, there were time restrictions placed in the rules), but the Steamers could not edge out a seven-inning game at all Saturday.

“We’re trying to stay within ourselves and do the little fundamental things right,” Rosenow said. “We played six games last week, so that may have played into it as well.”

West Carroll falls

THOMSON, Ill. — Makenzie Robison hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the top of the sixth inning, and Orangeville went on to beat West Carroll 7-3 in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball Monday.

Abby Maike’s RBI single had given the Thunder (6-13, 5-3 conference) a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Orangeville pulled even in the fifth. The Broncos (12-6, 6-2) then went ahead with a four-run sixth. Kaylee Saeger and Miranda Rodebaugh opened the inning with singles, and both scored when Robison followed with another single.

Orangeville extended its lead to 7-1 in the top of the seventh. West Carroll scored on back-to-back two-out singles by Brianna Kampmeier and Cassidy Rice, but Tori Clark recorded the final out with the bases loaded.

“We played well tonight,” West Carroll coach Don Mathey said. “Orangeville is a very nice team, and we played with them till late in the game. We’ve cut our errors down, which has made us much more competitive.”
