Fulton open house to showcase new well

FULTON, Ill. — After weeks of waiting, the city of Fulton will finally unveil a $3.1 million restoration project that has residents feeling good about their water.

From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, citizens of Fulton are invited to tour and explore a new well house that was completed in June, which will offer the city a sustainable water source for many years, a dream city leaders have had for more than 10 years.

An open house was originally planned for a Nov. 2 unveiling, but the city was forced to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances that delayed the grand opening.

Now, more than a month later, the city is ready to present the final product which features a 1,945 foot deep sandstone well, and a shallow 300 foot sand and gravel well. Both wells are part of the city’s extensive two phase water restoration project costing more than $4 million during the course of the 10 years.

“The open house will give people a chance to look around and admire all the new equipment,” Interim City Clerk Linda Hollis said.

All of the city’s leaders are excited for the open house because of the years of work that has gone into the planning and execution of the water restoration project and are ready for the residents to finally see what is going to sustain their city for the next 40 to 50 years.
