Dealing with Conflict
Conflict — we all have to deal with it, and no one is good at it! But there is hope. Jesus endured all the pains and problems that you and I face every day. And that includes dealing with conflict. This Sunday we will discover the ways he dealt with the religious crowd that was always out to get him. Join us for our continued study of the Gospel of Mark.
Contemporary worship starts at 8:30 a.m. and traditional worship starts at 11 a.m.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Sunday Review
Sunday, July 12, 2009, was a happy day at this small, long-established church. The church received a certificate stating that Mt. Pleasant donated more per capita to the North American Mission offering than any other church in Cooke County. This is the Annie Armstrong contribution that is given during the Easter season.
The service began with the baptism of new member, Jeff Porter. He and his son, Jerry, are welcome additions to our church family.
Pastor David Hartwig's sermon was about the significance of words in our daily lives. The most important word in the Bible is salvation, which means saved from danger and the impending doom of separation from God.
Acts 16:22 tells the story of Paul and Silas being unfairly beaten with rods, chained and jailed in Philippi. Other prisoners listened to them as they sang and prayed. Suddenly there was a great earthquake which shook the foundations of the prison. The doors were opened and the chains loosed. The jailer was about to kill himself for fear of punishment for losing his prisoners when Paul stopped him. Paul and Silas were guests in his home that evening, they spoke the word of God to the jailer He and his family were all saved, having believed in God with all his household.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church
Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time
The Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time focuses on the Gospel of Mark 6:30-34 and the ministry of the apostles. The apostles were out teaching the good news and they were very tired. Jesus invites them to come and rest in his presence. Through baptism, Christians are in engaged in the same ministry as the apostles and there is a need to take time to renew themselves.
In the Second Reading for Sunday’s liturgy we listen to Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 2:13-18 where he tells about Jesus coming to announce the good news of peace to those who were far off and to those who were near.
In the First Reading from Jeremiah 23:1-6, we hear the Lord say, “Woe to the shepherds who mislead and scatter the flock of my pasture.”
The readings for Sunday all focus on Jesus, the true Shepherd, and we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

500th Anniversary - John Calvin
Friday, July 10 was the 500th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin.
As a church we hold to the heritage and teaching left to us from this man who is known as the "Theologian of the Reformation".
While our church and most other Protestant churches in Gainesville find our ecclesiastical roots in the movement begun by Calvin, most are unaware of the many other contributions to Western Society made by this quiet and amazing man.
To learn a little more about John Calvin and this amazing man's contributions you can go to http://www.wscal.edu/resources/WRobertGodfrey_Calvin.php or listen to this week's broadcast on the White Horse Inn at:http://www.whitehorseinn.org/.
