Krista Brewer, daughter of Justin and Janice Brewer, has been selected to participate Children’s Cancer Fun Calendar, which will be unveiled during the 18th Annual Children’s Cancer Fund Luncheon on April 21 in Dallas.
Calendar artists are first year participants from Children’s Medical Center. Janice said her daughter drew a picture with flowers, grass, a tree and Amber, her dog. Each entry also had to include a wish.
“Her wish was to be cancer free forever and ever,” Janice said.
As an infant, doctors diagnosed Krista with a type of brain tumor. She underwent surgery and radiation to beat that cancer. In November 2004, doctors diagnosed cancer with a different type of cancer, medulloblastoma, and she has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to fight it. A MRI earlier this year showed her as stable.
“Something is there, but it’s not growing,” Janice said. “She is doing so good. We go back May 12 for an MRI.”
Before then though, Krista plans to attend the luncheon, which will be hosted by former Dallas Cowboy quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach.
During the luncheon, Krista also plans to participate in a fashion show, according to Janice. She said her daughter picked out the “fanciest pink dress you ever saw.” Krista plans to accent the dress with silver high heels and a straw cowboy hat with a pink ribbon.
“They bring in other celebrities and athletes to escort them down the runway,” Janice said.
A press release described the Children’s Cancer Fund Luncheon as a “momentous day for these brave children.”
“They get to show their stuff on the runway, meet their favorite celebrities, play backstage, enjoy a kid-friendly feast and forget about their treatment for a day and just have fun,” the statement said.
The luncheon and calendar raise money for pediatric cancer research and treatment programs at Children’s Medical Center and UT Southwestern. In its 12 years, the fund has donated more than $6 million to fight against childhood cancer.

Krista also is fighting cancer through raising money. She is captaining her own team in the Cooke County Relay For Life, which is set for May 5-6 at the Gainesville High School Leeper Stadium. She has planned a fundraiser for April 15 at Grand Central Station to raise money for Relay For Life. Donations also may be made to the American Cancer Society.
