Sabers move up in Class 3A poll

After beating a ranked Marion team on the road for the second year in a row, Central DeWitt climbed two spots in this week’s Associated Press Iowa high school football ratings in Class 3A.
The Sabers (3-0) beat then-No. 3 Marion 10-7 on Friday night. Marion (2-1) dropped to No. 10 in the rankings. Benton Community, which plays a week from Friday at DeWitt, is No. 7 in 3A. Sioux City Heelan is ranked first.
Defending state champion Bettendorf (3-0), which travels to Clinton on Friday to play the 2-1 River Kings, is ranked second behind West Des Moines Valley in Class 4A. Burlington (3-0), which edged Clinton 7-6 last Friday, held its No. 9 spot.
No other area teams are ranked. Solon is No. 1 in 2A, with Iowa City Regina No. 3. Regina beat Camanche last Friday. The Indians’ opponent this week, Wilton, also received votes in 2A. The other class leaders are Aplington-Parkersburg in 1A, Madrid in A and Stanton in 8-player.
