Nikolaos Antoniadis, 81

HAVERHILL | Nikolaos Antoniadis, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital.

He was born in Ilias, Greece, and had been a resident of Haverhill since 1967.

Mr. Antoniadis was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul.

He was an inspector for Lucent Technologies.

He is survived by his wife, Eftihia (Tolios) Antionadis; two sons and their wives, Vasilos and Joanne Antionadis of Haverhill, and Athanasios and Debra Antoniadis of Bay Shore, N.Y.; one brother, Antonios Antoniadis of Warren, R.I.; and one sister, Thomae Topaliadis of Greece; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophia Antoniadis of Haverhill, and Nicole and Katelyn Antoniadis of Bay Shore, N.Y. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral was held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at 8 a.m. from the Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 358 Washington St. followed by services at 9 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul. Elsie L. Costello, 83

HAVERHILL | Elsie L. (Myer) Costello, 83, of 190 North Ave., and formerly of Plaistow, N.H., died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at Wingate of Haverhill.

Born in Ovid, N.Y., she graduated from Cornell University with her degree in early childhood education and home economics. She later attended nursing school at Central Islip Hospital School of Nursing, Long Island, N.Y. and first worked as a nursing instructor in a hospital nursing school in Monrovia, Liberia.

After her marriage to the late Shane D. Costello, she lived in Paris for three years before moving back to New York. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1969 where she remained until moving to the Haverhill and southern New Hampshire area in 1999.

A lifelong student of languages and culture, Mrs. Costello also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting and traveling.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Costello) McGuirk and her husband Mickeye of Plaistow, N.H. and Eileen Costello of Honolulu; four sons, Timothy Costello of Washington, Michael Costello of San Francisco, Patrick Costello of Portland, Ore. and Thomas Costello of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, LeConte and Ruth Myer of Ovid; a sister, Florence Graham of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Meghan and Brendan McGuirk of Plaistow, and Kelly, Michael and Benjamin Costello of San Francisco; and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends called on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H. A funeral service followed at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to take place in the spring in Plaistow Cemetery.





Ruth E. Davis, 74

PLAISTOW, N.H. | Ruth E. (Brailsford) Davis, 74, of Plaistow, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at her home following a long illness.

Born in Boston, daughter of the late Richard and Phyllis (Leach) Brailsford, she was raised and educated in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1951.

Mrs. Davis was employed as a secretary and payroll clerk at Western Electric Co. and AT&T Technologies of North Andover, retiring after 21 years of service.

A resident of Plaistow for the past 44 years, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, knitting, reading and flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Gerald F. Davis; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia A. and Howard Roberts of Bolingbrook, Ill., Rhonda J. and Greg Maire of Cumming, Ga., and Lee Anne and Darran White of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, Richard Brailsford of New York; seven grandchildren, Heather Roberts, Howard Roberts, Emily Maire, Christopher Maire, Erin Maire, Joel White and Kyle White; and five great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be private under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice.





Elaine C. Demeritt, 71

HAVERHILL | Elaine C. (Perkins) Demeritt, 71, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at the Oxford Manor after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Joseph B. Jr. and Muriel (Kershaw) Perkins.

She was a 1954 graduate of Haverhill High School.

Mrs. Demeritt owned a local pet grooming business for many years and later worked as manager at Bethany Homes-Phoenix.

She also spent time traveling throughout the United States and Canada training and showing champion show dogs and horses. It was said she loved New England for the change of seasons | dogs show season and horse show season.

She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Judy Demeritt of Londonderry, N.H.; a daughter, Lynda J. Demeritt of Bradford; brothers, George Perkins and his wife Linda of Haverhill, Donald Perkins and his wife Joanne of Natick; sisters, Edith Guerin of Bradford, Sue Barlow and her husband Roy of Norfolk, Va., Barbara Lagasse and her husband Victor of Londonderry, N.H.; grandchildren, Stephanie L. and James F. Demeritt of Rochester, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph B. Perkins III.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family were respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 26 White St., Haverhill, with Rev. Marcus T. Crapsey officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Robert E. Dickey, 95

PLAISTOW, N.H. | Robert E. "Bob" Dickey, 95, formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at Exeter Hospital. Mr. Dickey was the husband of the late Inamae (Huntoon) Dickey.

Born in Haverhill, Oct. 4, 1912, Mr. Dickey was the son of the late Everett and Lillian Mae (Trull) Dickey.

Educated in Haverhill, Bob was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1930, and continued his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Sagahew Lodge F. & A.M., Founding Member of SACCA Northeast Chapter, Past Master of the Haverhill Grange, Tuftonboro Historical Society and the NH Model T Club.

Mr. Dickey is survived by his son, Richard E. Dickey and his wife Norma of Plaistow; daughter, Linda Herrera of Haverhill; grandsons, Nathan and Benjamin Dickey of Dover, N.H., Damon Dickey of Epping, N.H., David Herrera of Haverhill, Amy Joy Herrera of West Brookfield; and three great-grandsons.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to attend the funeral today at 11 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill. Irene A.M. Drag, 87

HAVERHILL | Irene A.M. (Kachuck) Drag, 87 of Haverhill died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at Penacook Place.

She was born in Haverhill, Sept. 6, 1920, daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Adamski) Kachuck was educated in the Haverhill Public Schools and was a 1939 graduate of Haverhill High School.

Irene relocated to Skokie, Ill. and was employed as a secretary at Marshall Fields Dept. Store, and moved to East Hampstead in 1977.

While in Hampstead she and her husband were active members of St. Anne's Church where they were involved in collections and counting of the money as well as many other church activities.

Her survivors include nieces and nephews, Michael, Mary, Michael and Nichole Kalaus, all of Bradford, Katherine Sears of Portsmouth, R.I., Andrew Sears of Wilburham and Michael Sears of Belmont.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to her funeral Saturday at 11 a.m from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral Mass at 12 noon in Sacred Hearts Church. Charlene A. Gallant, 69

PLAISTOW, N.H. | Charlene A. (Saunders) Gallant, 69, of Plaistow, N.H., died Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2007 at Hannah Duston Nursing Center, Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill, Aug. 9, 1938, daughter of the late Charles O. and Annette R. (Brown) Saunders Sr.

Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mrs. Gallant graduated from Haverhill High, Class of 1956.

A Florida resident for 14 years, she was employed for Westinghouse, and Florida Power, both in Tampa, Fla.

She was a member of Genesis LaSertoma Central Florida District #86. Mrs. Gallant moved back to the Haverhill area in the 1980s.

Her survivors include her husband 20 years, Adrian "Lou" Gallant of Plaistow, N.H.; a step-son, Mark and his wife Dawn Gallant of Nashua, N.H.; three step-daughters, Renee Webb of Wilton, N.H., Andrea Dressler of Florida, Danielle and her husband Randy Clos of Ohio; a sister, Ruth M. McGlew of Groveland; three sisters-in-law, June Dion of Haverhill, Shirley Saunders of Groveland, Corrine Saunders of Bradenton, Fla.; 16 step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins. Mrs. Gallant was also the sister of the late Richard D. Saunders, Charles O. Saunders Jr., Helen E. Conley, Evelyn M. Parker and Albert E. Saunders.

ARRANGEMENTS: Mrs. Gallant's family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 210 So. Rufus F. Hastings, 84

EAST HAMPSTEAD, N.H. | Rufus F. Hastings, 84, of E. Hampstead, died Sunday morning, Dec. 23, 2007 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

He was born in Derry, N.H. on June 7, 1923, son of the late Henry and Cora (Forsaith) Hastings.

He attended the Chester schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. From 1940 to 1962, Mr. Hastings served in the Navy attaining the rank of ADR-1 and receiving the Good Conduct Medal with four stars and the Presidential Unit Citation with a silver star.

Mr. Hastings was employed at Lucent Technologies in North Andover for 23 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M., Pentucket Chapter RAM, Haverhill Council, and the Haverhill Commandery 14, all in Haverhill.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Frances I. (Labrecque) Hastings; his children Gary R. Hastings and his wife Kathy of Albuquerque, N.M., Gail R. and her husband Horace Bowley of Carlsbad, N.M., and Gay Kim Tang and her husband John of Haverhill; brother, James H. Hastings and his wife Natalie of Bradford; sisters, J. Martha Low of Haverhill and Joanne L. and her husband Kenneth Prescott of Bradford; step-children, Jane M. and her husband James Tamagnine of North Andover, Patricia A. Wyman of Plaistow, N.H., Pamela J. and her husband Peter Rosengard of Haverhill and Eastman H. "Skip" Wedge of E. Hampstead; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary T. Heffernan, 75

MERRIMAC | Mary T. Heffernan, 75, of Merrimac, formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Hannah Duston Long Term Health Care Center, Haverhill.

Ms. Heffernan was born in Haverhill on Aug. 15, 1932, daughter of the late Maurice and Margaret Theresa (Shaw) Heffernan.

She was educated at St. James School and was a graduate of St. James High School and attended Merrimack College, North Andover.

She had been employed as a secretary for 37 years with Massachusetts Electric Co. and New England Powers Co., North Andover until her retirement in 1991.

She was a member of St. James Parish, Haverhill.

She had resided in Merrimac since 1972 and had previously resided in Haverhill.

Her surviving family members are her two brothers, Edward M. Heffernan of Cinnaminson, N.J. and Raymond S. Heffernan of Merrimac; her sister, Sara J. Diette of Lowell; two nieces, four nephews, one grandniece and several cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: The funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. from the C. Frank Linnehan & Son Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 185 Winter St., Haverhill. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. Calling hours at the C. William F. Kaczor, 59

GROVELAND | William F. Kaczor, 59, of Groveland, died Monday evening, Dec. 24, 2007 at Radius Healthcare Center, Danvers.

Mr. Kaczor was born in Newark, N.J. on April 3, 1948, son of the late Fred J. and Catherine (Wellet) Kaczor.

He was educated in the Hillside, N.J. schools and was a graduate of Hillside High School, Hillside, N.J. He attended Union Technical Institute, Scotch Plains, N.J.

He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and two years in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Until his retirement in 2003, he was employed as an engineering aide with International Light Co., Newburyport. Previously he had been employed for 20 years with Hasbro Games - Parker Bros., Beverly.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and had been an active member of the Haverhill Hound, Rod and Game Club, Haverhill.

His surviving family members are his wife, Joan A. (Radler) Kaczor of Groveland; his son, Christopher J. Kaczor and his wife Katherine A. Kaczor of Haverhill; his daughter, Jennifer L Penkul and her husband Brett Penkul of Lynn; two grandchildren, Tara and Zachary Kaczor of Haverhill; and his brother, Fred J. Kaczor and his wife Pat of South Yarmouth.

Blanche S. Killinger, 93

HAVERHILL | Blanche S. Killinger, 93, of Bradford, formerly of Wakefield, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007.

Born in Winchendon on June 14, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Winsenty and Zophia Kolodinski.

Mrs. Killinger was a graduate of Winchendon High School, Class of 1932.

While living in Wakefield, she was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Catholic Women's Club of Stoneham.

Mrs. Killinger was the wife of the late Millard "Buster" Killinger who died in 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Gail Kooken of Haverhill. She is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral was held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment was in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.





William King, 69

HAVERHILL | William King, 69, of Haverhill, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.

He was born in Haverhill, Nov. 30, 1938, son of the late William and Linda (Durnley) King.

Mr. King was educated in St. Joseph's Grammar School and Haverhill Trade School.

For several years he was employed as a cab driver for Town Taxi, B&M and Courtesy Cab companies.

He enjoyed playing bingo.

He was the husband of the late Mary Ann (Manners) King who died in 1987, and his survivors include a daughter, Debbie King of Derry, N.H.; three sons, David King of Manchester, N.H., Michael King of Bradford, and Willis Coppola of Haverhill; a sister, Sandra and her husband Reggie Paul of Haverhill, Phyllis and her husband Jimmy Connell of Malden; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Harold E. Libby Jr., 63

HAVERHILL | Harold E. Libby Jr., 63, of 81 Winter St., Haverhill, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 in his home, after being stricken ill.

He leaves three daughters, Jennifer A. Graves and her husband Geophrey of Fitchburg, Kerri Libby Frost of Leominster and Kate Romero and her husband Andrew of Fitchburg; two grandchildren, Owen Frost of Leominster and Madelyn Graves of Fitchburg; one sister, Mary Alice Howard and her husband Brian of Plaistow, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Libby of Gilroy, Calif. in 2002.

Mr. Libby was a licensed optician, and owned and operated the Essex Optical Company in North Andover and Lawrence for 30 years, retiring in 2005.

He was a 1962 graduate of Andover High School and later went to optical school in New Hampshire.

He was a longtime volunteer at the Lazareth House for the Homeless in Lawrence.

He was born in Jackson, Miss. on Feb. 14, 1944, a son of the late Harold E. and Clara (Reynolds) Libby Sr., and grew up in Andover before moving to Haverhill a year ago.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg. The Rev. Frank J. Liistro will officiate. Burial will be private.
