Knights’ rally come up short

FULTON, Ill. — Trailing 51-36 after three quarters, the Unity Christian Knights fell short on a comeback attempt, falling to Sterling Christian 57-54 in boys basketball Tuesday.

Dan Meinema scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead the charge.

Adam VenHuizen and Kyle Davis chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Knights.

Ethan Kruze led Sterling Christian with 21 points.

Morrison wins by 32

MORRISON, Ill. — Twelve players scored for head coach Dale Trott’s Morrison Mustangs on their way to a 65-33 win over Amboy in Three River Conference action on Tuesday.

Jason Smith was the high-point man with 13.

The Mustangs jumped to a quick 19-7 lead after one quarter and cruised to the 32-point win.

Ethan Goodenough and Dustin Belt each scored nine points for the Mustangs.

Prophetstown ekes out win

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Down 45-41 entering the fourth quarter, Prophetstown staged a rally to top non-conference opponent Cambridge 66-59 on Tuesday.

The Prophets outscored Cambridge 25-14 in the final stanza to escape with the win.

Ethan Ward led the charge with 10 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth. Kory Sommers (14 points) nailed two 3-pointers in the final frame.

Cambridge’s Daniel Walsh hit six treys on his way to a game-high 30 points.

With the win, Prophetstown is 6-11 overall.

Sabers go to 3-0 in WaMaC

DEWITT — The Sabers remained undefeated in WaMac Conference play with a 59-38 win over Anamosa Tuesday.

Weston Ketelsen led Central DeWitt with 18 points on the night as they ran their conference mark to 3-0. Nate Keeney and Tyler Smith added 11 and 10, respectively.

The Sabers led 15-9 after one quarter and 24-18 at the half.

In the second half, Central outscored Anamosa 35-20.

The Sabers (4-2 overall) play at Solon, the No. 1 team in Class 2A, on Friday night.

West Carroll escapes with win

LANARK, Ill. — West Carroll saw a 10-point lead evaporate in the final minute but managed to pull out a 69-68 win against Eastland on Monday night in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference.

“I was proud of the way our kids fought throughout the game,” West Carroll coach Josh Knuth said. “We have to execute end-of-game situations better, as we let our 10-point lead with 58 seconds to go slip away. It was a crazy ending, but we made two huge free throws and got a key defensive stop to win the game.”

Jaron Ferguson and Nataniel Law scored 21 apiece to lead the Thunder. Ferguson sank five 3-point baskets, while Law grabbed 11 rebounds. Tyler Zumdahl of Eastland led all scorers with 26 points.
