Irish boys win Big East golf title

CALAMUS — The Prince of Peace boys golf team claimed the Big East Conference title with a narrow three stroke win over Camanche at Calamus’s Wapsi Oaks Golf Course.
Camanche’s Dan McGarry fired a 79 to take third place individually, but the Irish placed three golfers in the top 10 with John Nelson and Eric Sikkema tying for seventh with rounds of 82 and Drew Sikkema tying for ninth with an 82.
Prince of Peace shot a combined round of 332, beating the Indians by just three strokes.
Camanche’s Mike Sullens shot an 81, while Cody Clausen and Jake Ellis shot rounds of 87 and 88 respectively.
Meet host Calamus-Wheatland took fourth in the team standings led by Meet Medalist Ryan Mason’s round of 77.
Bellevue placed fifth with Cody Hammond and Jacob Sieverding leading the way with rounds of 85.
The Preston Trojans took sixth as a team, led by senior Tayden Helmle’s score of 83. The score tied Helmle with Drew Sikkema for ninth overall.
Bellevue Marquette was eighth in the team standings as Ryan Tebbe (89) and Drew Burken (90) led the way.
East Central finished with a team score of 395, good for ninth. Devan Henfrey fired a round of 90 to lead the Raiders.
Andrew and Northeast rounded out the team scores. The Hawks were led by Tim Hoffman’s round of 98 and the Rebels by Gage Rodewald’s round of 100.
