Ernst named all-state

(Continued)

Driscoll averaged 37.7 yards a punt and also led the River Hawks with 1,877 yards rushing and was third with 76 tackles. Zaruba ran for 278 yards, caught 32 passes for 725 yards and 15 touchdowns and was second on the team with 78 tackles.

An honorary captain -- a player who had to be a senior first-team selection -- was chosen for each class, too. The winners were John Swisher of Dowling in Class 4A, Trent Solsma of Sioux City Heelan in 3A, Cole Neary of Carroll Kuemper in 2A, Riley Dixon of Iowa City Regina in 1A, Brandon Snyder of West Lyon in A and Jake Hogan of Gilbertville Don Bosco in eight-player. Swisher played defensive tackle, Dixon was a running back and the others were quarterbacks. All played for state championship teams.
