Wrestling: Forfeits help Steamers get the best of Rebels

FULTON, Ill. — Forfeit victories at the four lowest weights and three more in the middle weights gave Fulton a cushion Northeast couldn’t overcome, and the Steamers defeated the Rebels 54-28 in high school wrestling Tuesday night.

Sam Grant (152 pounds) and Zack Jenkins (220) picked up pins for Fulton.

Northeast got pins from Tyler Schoon (132), Blake Dierks (170) and Garrett Moeller (285), as well as a major decision from Octavio Cruz at 145.

Panthers take 2

ERIE, Ill. — Josh Wheeler, Jared Cole and Nick Williams each recorded a pair of pins Tuesday to lead Erie/Prophetstown to wrestling victories against Putnam County/Hall (45-23) and Rockridge (51-27) in a triangular meet.

In the other matchup, Rockridge beat Putnam County/Hall 60-18.

Wheeler was at 138 and Cole was at 145, while Williams wrestled at 182. Logan Voss (106), Damien Schacherbauer (120), Josh Bowling (126), Dylan Binion (160) and Jordan Westerfield (285) each had one pin for the Panthers.

Morrison splits

MORRISON, Ill. — Morrison took advantage of six forfeits and three pins to beat Amboy 57-18 but lost to Sherrard 47-29 in high school wrestling.

Parker Zickert recorded a pair of pins at 220 for the Mustangs
