Girls basketball: Area Roundup

PRESTON — Mariah Steines scored 14 points and Ali Reeg added 13 to lead Bellevue past Easton Valley 49-35 on Tuesday in a non-conference girls basketball game between former Big East Conference rivals.

The Comets (5-2), now in the River Valley Conference, jumped in front 14-2 and maintained the double-digit advantage most of the way. Reeg scored nine points in the first half.

Gabby Vasconcelos led all scorers, tossing in 15 points for the River Hawks (2-4), who joined the Tri-Rivers Conference when the Big East disbanded. Lizzie Meier added 12.

Prophets go to 10-2

POLO, Ill. — Corrie Reiley opened and closed Prophetstown’s first-quarter scoring with 3-pointers to lead the Prophets past West Carroll 65-28 on Tuesday at the Polo tournament.

Reiley scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Prophets (10-2) built a 20-5 lead.

Clare Kramer added 11 points for Prophetstown, which sat all its starters in the fourth quarter.

MAQUOKETA — Megan Maahs scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to help Western Dubuque establish a lead it never lost in a 46-29 win against Maquoketa on Tuesday in the WaMaC Conference.

Western Dubuque scored the game’s only two points in the first two minutes but led 6-2 a minute later and never trailed.

Chiara Atienza scored 12 points to lead Maquoketa (3-4), which scored just two points in the third quarter and three in the fourth.

Maahs also grabbed 14 rebounds.
