Lena-Winslow overcome Wildt's wild performance

ERIE, Ill. – After his team fell behind 13-5 in the opening quarter, Nich Wildt kept his Erie boys basketball team in the contest. But in the end, his five 3-point baskets and 17 points weren’t quite enough Saturday as Lena-Winslow beat the host school 48-40 at the Cliff Warkins Cardinal Classic.

Hank Holm matched Wildt’s 17 to lead Lena-Winslow.

Erie was scheduled to play Mercer County for ninth place today at 1:30 p.m.

Morrison beaten

ERIE, Ill. – A slow first half hurt Morrison in a 53-33 loss to Stark County.

The Mustangs managed to score just 10 points in the first half, falling behind 31-10.

Jake Berchtold led Stark County with 13 points, while Noah Hogue had 10 for Morrison.

Morrison was scheduled to finish tournament play at 1:30 p.m. today against Orion in the 11th-place game.

In the other boys games Saturday:

Peoria Heights pulled away from a two-point lead after three quarters and beat Bureau Valley 69-61. Bryton Wallace scored 28 points to lead Peoria Heights, and Hank Thomas added 16. Parker Neuhalfen led the Storm with 25 points, scoring 11 of them from the free-throw line on 15 attempts.

An 8-2 edge in the third quarter was the key as Riverdale defeated Mercer County 48-40. The Rams used a balanced attack, with four players scoring eight or more points. Jake Gellerstedt led the way with 13. Spencer Wood topped Mercer County with 13.

Knoxville made things interesting in the third quarter, but Kewanee Wethersfield outscored the Blue Bombers 30-16 in the fourth for the 84-62 win. Trevor Lay (28 points) and Matt Jenkins (26) combined for 54 points for the Flying Geese. Tyler Houston led Knoxville with 34.

Stockton used a strong first-half performance to beat Orion 66-56. The Blackhawks led 34-18 at the half. Jace Springer (17 points), Trey Timpe (15) and Sam VenHuizen (13) led the Stockton scoring attack. Noah Clarke scored 16 to lead Orion.
