Hoffman, Jenkins help Steamers pin down split

ASHTON, Ill. — Jake Hoffman and Zack Jenkins recorded pins to lead Fulton to a 43-24 win against host Ashton-Franklin Center in a high school wrestling triangular Thursday night.

Sam Grant won both his matches, including a pin in Fulton’s 45-24 loss to Oregon in its other matchup. Cole Grant also had a pin against Oregon.

The Steamers got three forfeit wins in the lowest five weights against Ashton-Franklin Center, with Hoffman getting a pin at 120 pounds.

In addition to the pins, Mike Pidde earned a 17-7 major decision and Grant won 9-2 against AFC.

Camanche falls twice

WEST BRANCH — Brice Everson knocked off a ranked opponent, and Nate Thoms had a pin and Noah Everson recorded a major decision for Camanche, but the Indians lost 54-19 to West Branch as part of a River Valley Conference triangular Thursday.

Thoms also had a decision and Camanche picked up four forfeits in a 45-27 loss to Iowa City Regina.

Brice Everson, ranked ninth in Class 2A at 126 pins, beat Carter Carew, ranked eighth in 1A, 6-1 in the loss to West Branch.

Mustangs beat Thunder

MORRISON, Ill. — Forfeits made the difference Thursday as Morrison defeated West Carroll 44-24.

The Mustangs picked up forfeits at four weights, earning 24 points.

In the tightest match of the night, Morrison’s Austin Keller beat Devin Saunders 8-6 in overtime at 160 pounds.

John Anderson (152) and Austin Shoup (195) had pins for Morrison, and Joe Eads (106) added a technical fall. Jeff Casey (126), Keigan Rice (170) and Brandon Anderson (285) recorded falls for West Carroll.

Rebels drop a pair

WELLMAN — After dropping its first dual 54-12 to host Mid-Prairie, Northeast got off to a promising start against Durant-Bennett but couldn’t keep the momentum going.

Tyler Schoon (132 pounds) and Octavio Cruz (138) pinned their opponents in the first two matches against Durant, but the Wildcats came back to win the dual 42-18.
