Hoffman, Jenkins help Steamers pin down split

Lancers beat Sabers

DEWITT — Central DeWitt finished the meet strong but couldn’t catch North Scott on Thursday as the Class 3A Lancers beat the Class 2A Sabers 39-28.

Drew Schroeder won 4-1 at 170 pounds, but that was DeWitt’s lone win in the first five weights as North Scott built a 24-3 lead.

The Lancers won the next three weights, picking up decisions by Doug Hayen (285), Bryant Woodford (106) and Ira Kuehn (113).

The Lancers increased their edge to 33-12 before the Sabers closed the meet with a pin by Walker Wegener at 132 pounds, a major decision by Carter Cahill at 145 and a pin by Mason Cousins at 152.

Panthers roll

PERU, Ill. — Erie/Prophetstown won the first 13 weight classes — nine by fall — on their way to a 75-6 win against Peru St. Bede on Thursday.

Logan Voss (106 pounds) had the fastest fall for the Panthers, winning in 33 seconds.
