Basketball: Indians earn a split at Regina

---- — IOWA CITY — Camanche scored the game’s final four points Saturday night to beat Iowa City Regina 44-42 in a River Valley Conference girls basketball game.

The Regals earned a split in the conference doubleheader by winning the boys game 71-60.

The Camanche girls led much of the first half, but Regina held the Indians scoreless for the final three minutes of the third quarter and used a 7-0 run to take the lead entering the final period. The Indians pulled within 42-40 with 3 minutes remaining, but neither team scored for the next two minutes before Camanche finally pulled out the win.

Lindsey Grams scored 13 points to lead the Indians, while Julia Moore added 10.

The Indians fell behind early in the boys game, going more than two minutes without scoring while Regina raced in front. Regina built a 14-3 lead in the first six minutes and increased it to 20-7 by the end of the opening quarter.

It was more of the same in the second period, and the Regals took a 41-23 edge into the locker room at halftime. They upped the advantage to 61-39 after three quarters before Camanche whittled away at the deficit over the final eight minutes.

Dylan Busse led Camanche with 17 points, Tanner Atkinson scored 12, Devon Belk had 11 and Blake Bialas added 10.

Regina’s Drew Cook, son of former University of Iowa and NFL tight end Marv Cook, led all players with 27 points.
