Gable to visit Morrison

MORRISON, Ill. -- Sports figures are too easily called “legends.”

Their records of exceptional performance are too short to deserve the title. They usually leave the sport with little influence on it, beyond individual data and deeds. Rarely do athletes devote their post career to transferring their skills across a wide younger audience. Outstanding careers end, but legendary status must be ongoing throughout an athlete’s lifetime. It must endure beyond the individual to leave a lasting impact.

You will meet a certified living legend--Dan Gable--on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Morrison High School. Four decades after his college wrestling career ended, he continues to drive the sport and to be recognized for his effect upon it.

This fundraiser event benefits the Morrison High School Wrestling department. Tickets are $5 per person. Get advance tickets in the MHS office or from from MHS wrestlers.

Gable’s afternoon schedule has been modified a bit, but his 2:00 p.m. speaking time has not changed.

Gable will meet with wrestling teams from 12:45 until 1:45 before making his keynote presentation at 2 p.m. in the Morrison gymnasium.

Area wrestling coaches are urged to contact Morrison Head Coach Tony Wright to arrange a meet-and-greet time at

Come shake hands with this legendary athlete, “The Top Wrestler of the 20th Century.”

He will be brought to you by these 15 generous patrons: Aegis Credit Union; Community State Bank; Farmer’s National Bank; Green & Clean Lawn Services, Inc.; Hunter Body Shop; Mac’s Body Shop; Periodontics of Rockford Ltd.; Rick’s Auto Body; Rock River Lumber & Grain; Sterling Federal Bank;; Ward Murray Pace & Johnson PC; Wells Fargo Bank; Workman Heating & Cooling, Inc.; an anonymous donor.
