EDGINGTON, Ill. -- Rockridge did all its damage in the first two innings Friday as it beat Morrison 6-2 in the season opener for the Mustangs.
The Rockets scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and added four more in the second to build a 6-0 lead.
The Mustangs battled back, with Joey Brackemyer driving in a run in the third with a groundout and Ben Tegeler adding an RBI single in the fifth inning. Tegeler and Triston Houzenga each had a pair of hits to lead the Mustangs.
Bill Lee Greul took the loss for Morrison, allowing six hits and six runs (four earned) in two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Ryan VanZuiden pitched a scoreless inning, then Brackemyer went the final three, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five.
