---- — MORRISON, Ill. — Morrison scored 10 runs in the fifth inning to put an early end to its 12-0 victory against Sterling Newman on Monday in the Three Rivers Conference softball opener for both teams.

Brooke Stralow drove in three runs for Morrison (2-0), while Shannon Finneran added a pair. Lauren Pannier pitched the first four innings, and Lauren Rice finished. Newman got just two hits in the game.

Alleman blasts Thunder

ROCK ISLAND — Rock Island Alleman took all the drama out of the game with a 14-run second inning on the way to a 20-0, five-inning win against West Carroll on Monday.

“Too many walks and hits given up to Alleman and not enough for us,” West Carroll coach Don Mathey said. “Also, add to that we have enough trouble just catching the balls thrown to us.”

Losing pitcher Abby Maike was one out away from getting out of the second inning with a scoreless tie before Alleman exploded for the 14 runs, all but two of which were unearned.

Lexi Ferrari’s double scored the first two runs. After a walk to Izzy Anderson and a wild pitch, two runs scored on an error that opened the flood gates. Before relief pitcher Cassidy Rice got the final out, the Pioneers (1-1) scored 10 more runs. Included in the onslaught was a two-run double by Anderson and two-run singles by winning pitcher Dakota Stout and Molly Ethington.

Ethington added another two-run single in the fourth.

Darby Rumler (double in the third inning) and Haley Appel (single in the fifth) were the lone baserunners for the Thunder (1-4).
