Girls basketball: Fillies improve record to 2-0

GALVA, Ill. — Lakin Goodman poured in a game-high 15 points and Morrison used a strong second quarter to defeat host Galva 40-26 in girls basketball Wednesday night at the Galva Tournament.

The teams were tied at 6 after one quarter, but the Fillies outscored the Wildcats 15-5 in the second. Goodman scored five of those, including a 3-pointer that capped their second-quarter scoring. Chelsea Eads and Rachel Davis each added four points in the quarter.

The Fillies (2-0) return to action in the tournament Friday night.

Cardinals win again

WOODHULL, Ill. — Eight players got in the scoring column in Erie’s 29-26 win against Bushnell-Prairie City on Wednesday night at the Ridgewood tournament, with Katlyn Weber draining a key 3-point basket in the fourth quarter.

Sisters Rachel and Courtney Cobert led the Cardinals (2-1). Rachel scored eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Erie in both categories, while Courtney was right behind with five points and 10 rebounds while also adding three assists.

“Tonight our defense carried us to a win,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “We shot with tired legs (the Cardinals were 10-for-43 from the field). Rachel and Courtney Cobert had big games on the boards.”
