Fulton hangs close during tough tourney

---- — MOUNT PULASKI, Ill. -- Fulton dropped all 10 of its sets, Saturday, when it traveled to the Mt. Pulaski Invitational. The toughest part of the sweeps was that eight of the losses were by fewer than five points.

The Steamers lost 25-23 in both sets against Monmouth Roseville, 26-24 against Porta, 27-25 against Mt. Pulaski and 25-22 against Effingham. After being swept by Pulaski, Effingham and Champaign Central in pool play, Fulton took last place in its pool where it met up with Roseville in round 1 and Porta in the final round. The loss of all five matches made it a last place finish for the Steamers.

Betsy Leonard and Chelsea Lesniewski led the team hitting wise with 28 and 25 kills, respectively, over the course of the day. Racheal Beiermann had 43 assists followed by Olivia Edfors’ 42. Averi Leitzen, Lesniewski and Beiermann each had more than 30 digs.
