Steamers win again, this time over Prophetstown

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Fulton picked up its second victory in three days Thursday, defeating Prophetstown 21-25, 25-14, 25-20 in Three Rivers Conference volleyball.

The Steamers, who came back after trailing 17-14 in the third set, improved to 3-11, 3-5 in conference play. The Prophets dropped to 3-6, 2-3.

Betsy Leonard led Fulton with nine kills and nine serving points, while Chelsea Lesniewski had eight kills, eight serving points and eight digs. Rachael Beiermann made 21 assists, while Ann Renkes served five aces.

Prophetstown’s Karlie Stafford led all players with 10 kills. She also had seven digs. Teammate Kate Fringer had 17 assists and three aces.

Springville tops Irish

SPRINGVILLE — Springville took advantage of serving and Prince of Peace mistakes for a three-set victory Thursday in Tri-Rivers Conference volleyball.

The Irish had more hitting errors (22) than kills (11) as Springville won 25-9, 25-13, 25-10. The Orioles also delivered 17 aces.

Sydney Laufenberg led the Irish with four kills, while Shannon Kuehl had a team-high six assists and Hunter Chapman had 15 of the Irish’s 28 digs.

Northeast swept

IOWA CITY — Iowa City Regina surrendered just 28 points as it swept Northeast 25-5, 25-15, 25-8 on Thursday in River Valley Conference volleyball.

Addie Oberman led the Rebels (6-9) with three kills.

Regina evened its record at 7-7.

Lisbon tops Mohawks

BELLEVUE — Lisbon improved to 16-3 on Thursday with a 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16 win against Marquette Catholic in Tri-Rivers Conference volleyball.

Blake Banowetz recorded 17 kills and 20 digs for the Mohawks (9-7).

Comets fall in 4

MONTICELLO — Monticello won back-to-back 25-19 sets to open the match then finished off Bellevue 25-20 after the Comets won the third game 25-12.

Ashley Giesemann had 13 kills to lead Bellevue (3-12). Monticello improved to 4-10.

Warriors win at home

WHEATLAND — McKenna Luepker and Katie Banowetz each recorded double-digit kill totals to lead Calamus-Wheatland past visiting Central City in Tri-Rivers play Thursday.

The Warriors improved to 8-6 with the 25-9, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13 victory.

Luepker led Cal-Wheat with 11 kills, and Banowetz, a freshman, added 10. Banowetz also recorded four block assists as the Warriors finished with eight blocks
