Bailey's run lifts sophomores to victory

BURLINGTON — Isaiah Bailey broke off a 73-yard run in the fourth quarter that gave Clinton a 27-22 come-from-behind victory against Burlington in sophomore football Friday.

A 21-point second quarter had given the River Kings a 21-16 halftime lead, but the Grayhounds went ahead with a third-quarter score.

“We came out in the second half and played some pretty good defense, got a big run by Isaiah Bailey and then came up with some crucial stops late in the fourth quarter,” Clinton coach Mike Griswold said. “Tonight was probably our best all-around effort in all three phases of the game. We made some mistakes in each of those areas, but we finally made the plays that allowed us to make up for the mistakes.”

Bailey finished the game with 130 yards rushing on 10 carries, scoring twice. John Sullivan passed for 162 yards. On defense, Makai Hart returned an interception 80 yards for a score.

“Both lines had their best games of the year, and we had some very nice defensive performances by Luke Larkin, Sam Cruthis and the rest of the defensive backfield,” Griswold said.
