Warriors advance in Class 1A

WHEATLAND — Calamus-Wheatland swept Rivermont Collegiate of Bettendorf on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Iowa Class 1A Region 7 high school volleyball tournament.

McKenna Luepker led the Warriors (12-15) with eight kills and 10 digs, and she also recorded four service aces. Sydney Kerr led Cal-Wheat with 10 assists, and Rebecca Vander Heiden had five of the Warriors’ 22 aces.

Calamus-Wheatland will serve as a quarterfinals-round host, too. Lone Tree, which swept Cedar Valley Christian on Tuesday, will travel to Wheatland to face the Warriors next Tuesday.

Bellevue ousted

CASCADE — Cascade swept Bellevue to dismiss the Comets from the Iowa Class 2A regional tournament.

Bailey Holmes and Holly Hunt each delivered eight kills to lead Cascade to the 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 win Tuesday in Region 7.

Ashley Giesemann and Maddie Hiland each had five kills to lead the Comets.

Cascade will face North Cedar in the quarterfinals next Tuesday.
