---- — THOMSON, Ill. — After losing to Morrison the night before, West Carroll rebounds with an impressive 13-6 win against Scales Mound/River Ridge on Thursday night.

The Thunder scored seven runs in the sixth inning after Scales Mound/River Ridge put up three runs in the fifth inning to reel within one run.

SM/RR scored the first two runs in the opening inning. Third baseman Nicole Ties and shortshop Louisa Williams scored in an inning that included three singles, and a fielder’s choice.

West Carroll followed suit in the bottom of the first with a lead-off solo home run before the Thunder were retired in order.

Brianna Kampmeier led off the bottom of the second inning with a single, then Darby Rumler sent in Kampmeier on a RBI single following a stolen base.

Maike also singled in the four-run rally and Cassidy Rice also pitched in with a two-run single with a stolen base to cap off the second inning.

The scoring became quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning when Rachel Dykstra brought in Rumler on a pinch-hit RBI single. Maike also got her third hit of the night in the fourth.

SM/RR scored its three runs off of three walks, a double, two singles and a throwing error. Louisa Williams got the double while Ashley Anderson and Hannah Wienen had the pair of singles.

West Carroll got it going in the sixth inning with a lead-off single by Maike, then the next five hitters reached base. Kampmeier broke the flood gates open with a three-run home run that brought in Anna Badtke and Monica Smith.

Maike went 5-for-5 on the night.

“I was very pleased with how we bounced back,” Thunder coach Don Mathey said. “We committed just one error in the game, and we have a chance to improve.”

Cassidy Rice pitched the entire game for the Thunder, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits. Rice walked six hitters walking just one.

“She’s had to throw a lot of innings this season already, because Abby was injured early,” Mather said. “Cassidy threw well tonight and has kept us in every game she’s pitched.”

Despite the win and sitting in the TRAC at 2-1, Mathey can’t quite put a finger where his team stands.

“We’ve played two spectrums of teams,” he said. “We’ve played teams that are outstanding, and we’ve played teams that we’ve beaten and should beat. We haven’t really played a team that’s been at our level yet.

“We’ve been playing well,” Mathey continued. “I just wish we could play more innings against those high-level of teams.”
