Morrison posts 17 on Riverdale

---- — PORT BYRON, Ill. — Morrison once again took care of business on Thursday as they blew out Riverdale 17-0 in five innings.

Chelsea Eads and Lauren Rice each hit a home run in the contest, while Eads and three others had extra base hits.

The Fillies (9-1, 2-0 TRAC) were leading only by four heading into the fourth inning, but Morrison opened its lead by scoring 12 runs in the fourth before adding one more in the fifth inning.

Emma Sitzmore and Brooke Stralow had three hits for the Fillies.

Allie Wiersema threw the entire game for Morrison, and struck out nine Riverdale hitters.

West Carroll’s 10 runs not enough

THOMSON, Ill. — Pearl City started out strong scoring 11 runs in the first three innings, and it needed every run needed to defeat West Carroll 16-10 on Thursday.

West Carroll rebounded its rough start by scoring eight runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Abby Maike. In the fourth inning, each of the first eight hitters got on-base before Brianna Kampmeier flew out to centerfield.

Darby Rumler also had a double in the inning that included a walk, a hit batsmen, three singles, and two Pearl City errors.

Down 16-8 heading into the seventh inning, West Carroll proved that it was not ready to just give into a large deficit. The Thunder had a rally that allowed West Carroll to score two runs. There were two hits in the seventh for West Carroll.

Maike was the pitcher for the Thunder, and she allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits. She walked seven hitters, but she also struck out seven.

Libby Peterson received the winning decision for Pearl City. Peterson threw 3 1/3 innings allowing six runs (all earned) on four hits. Peterson did not strike out a Thunder hitter, and walked five.
