River Kings, Irish roll to victories

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Cody Nolan had delivered three hits and three runs batted in, and Rodney Witherspoon blanked Cedar Rapids Jefferson for the first five innings of a 12-3 non-conference baseball win Tuesday for Clinton High School.

Witherspoon scattered seven hits to earn the victory on the mound as the River Kings improved to 16-7. He allowed three runs -- all in the sixth inning -- but only one of them was earned. He walked two batters and struck out four.

By the time the J-Hawks scored their runs the River Kings already had scored 10 times.

Besides Nolan's big day at the plate, Clinton also got two hits and two RBIs from third baseman Dustin Caldwell, while Ryan Driscoll walked three times and scored three runs.

The River Kings are back in action at 5 p.m. today with a makeup doubleheader against Mississippi Athletic Conference foe Burlington in games that were rained out Monday.
