Morrison 6th, Erie 7th

KEWANEE, Ill. -- Ben Tegeler fired a team-low 83 and the Morrison Mustangs finished in the top half of the 14-team Kewanee Boiler Golf Invitational on Saturday at Baker Park Golf Course. Erie, led by Koby Kuhnen’s 86, weren’t far behind with a team overall 369.

Two Ridgewood golfers topped the leaderboard with rounds in the 70s. Jack Bumann was the medalist with a 73; his teammate, Noah Shannon, was runner-up with a 79. Yet, Ridgewood was outdone by Mercer County’s team score of 331.

There was a logjam among the top five teams in the tournament. Mercer County edged Ridgewood by five strokes, while host Kewanee and Peru St. Bede tied for third with 338. They were followed by fifth-place Hall Township’s 343, meaning 12 strokes separated first place from fifth.

Tegeler shot 43 on the front nine and shaved three more strokes off that mark with a 40 on the back. He finished 11th overall and was followed by teammate Noah Hogue’s 15th -best 85. Brock Smith’s 93 and Anthony Tenboer’s 95. Morrison finished with 356.

For Erie, Levi Floming joined Kuhnen in the 80s with an 87. He bounced back from a 45 on the front to notch a 42 on the back. They were joined by Brandon Heppner’s 91 and Brody Rickels’ 105.
