Erie rallies, beats rival Prophets

---- — ERIE, Ill. — Prophetstown won the opening set 27-25, but Erie came back to win the next two, 25-15 and 25-18, for a Three Rivers Conference volleyball win against in rival Tuesday night.

Rachell Cobert and Peyton Rus recorded nine kills each for the Cardinals, while Savannah Mettler added eight. Mettler and Courtney Cobert tied for the team lead with 12 digs. Mary Chapman had 26 assists.

Claire Milnes led the Prophets (3-7, 2-4 conference) with six kills, two blocks and two aces, while Kate Fringer had 16 assists.

Unity Christian splits

FULTON, Ill. — Unity Christian defeated Rivermont 25-5, 25-16 but lost to Faith Christian 25-18, 25-9 on Monday.

JoLynn Frederick had three kids and Katie VanderEide had six ace serves to lead the Knights to the non-conference victory. Unity delivered 16 aces in the victory.

Jessi VanderEide had two kills and Natalie Hirl had three aces against Faith.

“Unity stuck with Faith early in their first game, but Faith pulled away, winning the first and second games soundly,” Unity coach Tabitha Fullan said.

Marquette swept

BELLEVUE — Alburnett pulled out close games in the opener and clincher and swept Marquette Catholic 25-22, 25-17, 26-24 on Tuesday in Tri-Rivers Conference volleyball.

Blake Banowetz led the Mohawks (9-11, 3-3 conference) with eight kills, 20 digs and two aces.

Alburnett moved its record above the .500 mark to 10-9.

Comets sweep Hawks

MILES — Maddie Hiland had 11 kills, Ali Reeg added seven and a team-high 17 digs, and Stefanie Reed served three aces to lead Bellevue past Easton Valley 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 in non-conference volleyball.

Jackie Kremer led the Comets (5-14) with 14 assists.

Easton Valley dropped to 6-12.

Maquoketa topped

MAQUOKETA — Dyersville Beckman pulled out the final two games to defeat Maquoketa 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-9 in WaMaC Conference play Tuesday.

Allison Vandemore, who made her season debut last week, led the Cardinals (4-14) with 16 kills, while Aubree Taylor added 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs.

Beckman improved to 13-11.

Sabers stumble

EPWORTH — Central DeWitt forced a fifth game, but Western Dubuque won that one to finish off an 18-25, 25-16, 25-11, 18-25, 15-11 WaMaC Conference victory Tuesday.

The loss dropped the Sabers to 6-14 on the season, while Western Dubuque improved to 10-9.
