---- — SPRING VALLEY, Ill. — Kewanee ended Fulton’s four-year run as Three Rivers Conference golf champion Tuesday, claiming the title by eight strokes over runner-up Princeton at Spring Creek Golf Course.

The Boilermakers, who finished third behind Fulton and Morrison last year and weren’t even in the conference when the Steamers started their title run in 2009, shot a combined 332-stroke total. Five of Kewanee’s six golfers who competed in the tournament a year ago returned this fall.

Princeton, one of six schools that joined the league this season, finished with a 340 total. Riverdale and Peru St. Bede tied for third at 342, while Fulton was fifth with a 348. Morrison (358) took seventh, Erie (390) was 12th and Prophetstown (421) took 15th.

Jake Tysma of Riverdale defeated Tyler Nelson of Kewanee in a playoff for medalist honors after each shot a 5-over-par 77. Griffin Kozel of Amboy was the only repeat finisher in the top five. He took fourth with an 81, one spot lower than his 2012 finish.

Fulton put a pair of golfers in the top 10. Brett Terrock placed sixth with an 83, while Matt Dail took 10th with an 85.

Ben Tegeler led Morrison’s contingent with an 87, Koby Kuhnen shot an 89 to lead Erie and Grant Ames had a 97 for Prophetstown.
