Cross Country: E/P girls claim 8th

PEORIA, Ill. — Led by a 12th-place finish from junior Corrie Reiley, Erie/Prophetstown claimed eighth place Saturday in girls cross country competition at the Patriot Invitational at Detweiller Park.

The Panthers finished 12th out of 33 teams in the boys race.

Reiley ran the 3-mile state-meet course in 18 minutes, 58.9 seconds. Daly Galloway, a freshman from Gardner-South Wilmington, won the race in 18:02.6, 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Kirstie Ramsey of Annawan-Wethersfield.

Emily Hanover was the next Panther across the finish line. She took 66th place in 20:37.2.

Erie/Prophetstown finished with 292 points. St. Joseph-Ogden, which placed 10th in last year’s Class 1A girls team standings, won the team title with 77 points.

Lucas White led the Erie/Prophetstown boys, covering the 3-mile course in 16:38.7 for 44th place. Braedon Bonnell was 52nd in 16:48.5. The Panthers finished with 404 points.

Elmwood-Brimfield, last year’s Class 1A state runner-up, was the boys champion with 79 points, four points ahead of Sterling Newman. Michael Cook of Annawan-Wethersfield won a tight battle for the boys individual crown. Cook finished in 15:16.6, while less than 9 seconds separated runner-up Al Baldonado of Spring Valley Hall (15:22.6) from the seventh-place finisher.
