Volleyball: Prophets rally past Mustangs

PORT BYRON, Ill. — Prophetstown came from behind in both games to defeat Morrison 25-17, 25-22 on Monday and advance to the semifinals of the Illinois Class 2A Riverdale Regional.

Trailing 15-9 in the first set, the Prophets (11-19) went on a 16-2 run to earn the victory. Kate Fringer highlighted the win with a nine-point service run. They trailed in the second game, too, 17-14, but a five-point run by Claire Milnes shifted the momentum in their favor.

Milnes led Prophetstown with 12 kills and two aces, while Fringer had 24 assists.

Prophetstown, the fifth seed, will face top seed Bureau Valley at 6 tonight in the semifinals. That match will be followed by the other semifinal between host Riverdale and Fulton at 7 p.m.

Thunder advance

DAKOTA — West Carroll seized the momentum early in the first game and controlled the second to beat South Beloit 25-17, 25-6 on Monday in a first-round match of the Class 2A Dakota Regional.

West Carroll jumped to a 10-3 lead in the opener and never looked back the rest of the night.

The fourth-seeded Thunder take on top-seeded host Dakota at 6 p.m. today in the semifinals.

Erie to face Missiles

LANARK, Ill. — Milledgeville defeated Polo 25-15, 25-10 on Monday in a first-round match at the Class 1A Eastland Regional.

The Missiles will meet top-seeded Erie at 6 tonight in the semifinals.
