Volleyball: Erie advances to the regional final

LANARK, Ill. — Top-seeded Erie rallied after losing the first game and took the next two to beat Milledgeville 20-25, 25-20, 25-12 on Tuesday and advance to Thursday’s championship of the Illinois Class 1A Eastland Regional.

The Cardinals will take on the host school at 6 p.m. Thursday for the right to advance to the Pearl City Sectional semifinals. Eastland, the No. 3 seed, beat second-seeded Forreston 25-18, 25-20 in Tuesday’s second semifinal.

Rachel Cobert delivered 19 kills and four blocks to lead Erie in both categories. Savannah Mettler added 11 kills and 11 digs. Courtney Cobert’s 18 digs were a team high, while Mary Chapman had 31 assists and RaeAnna Stover recorded three aces.

Eastland was led by Cassidy Logemann’s 13 kills in its win, while Makenzie Fink and Sydney Guenther had seven blocks each.

Thunder ousted

DAKOTA — Dakota protected its home court, beating West Carroll 25-17, 25-15 on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Illinois Class 2A Dakota Regional.

The Indians will face Lena-Winslow in Thursday’s final.

Mohawks advance

BELLEVUE — Marquette Catholic swept Easton Valley 25-9, 26-24, 25-13 on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Iowa Class 1A Region 7 tournament.

Blake Banowetz recorded 13 kills to lead the Mohawks (15-14), who take on Springville in Friday’s semifinals in Wyoming. Justine Kalmes had 23 assists, Tayler Richman had two blocks and Anna Ambrosy finished with 22 digs and three aces in the win.

Warriors move on

WHEATLAND — Calamus-Wheatland earned a spot in the Class 1A Region 7 semifinals by defeating Lone Tree 25-16, 25-10, 25-21 on Tuesday.

The Warriors (13-15) will face New London in a semifinal matchup Friday in West Liberty.
