Indians go 1-1 Saturday

CENTER POINT — Fueled by a four-run fourth inning, Camanche fended off a late rally by Denver to go 1-1 in the Center Point-Urbana Invitational on Saturday.

The Indians took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, where Dylan Busse closed out the win, allowing one run. Camanche was out-hit 5-3 but remained ahead for good with four runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

Derek Harksen started the game and went five innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three. He was aided by Blake Bialas, who delivered a two-run single in the fourth, then scored.

Host Center Point shut out the Indians 8-0. The Indians could only generate offense at the top of their order, with Cody Mensinger leading the charge with a double. But Camanche couldn’t capitalize on scoring opportunities, reaching base eight times with four hits on 22 plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Center Point added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take an eight-run lead.

Camanche (4-14) hosts Calamus-Wheatland tonight for a home doubleheader starting at 5.

Cal-Wheat splits

CALAMUS — Calamus-Wheatland couldn’t ride a 7-0 shutout to take two in a Saturday doubleheader against Logan-Magnolia.

Joh Diercks led the charge in Game 1 with two hits and three RBIs, including a double to keep the Warriors ahead. Cal-Wheat scored runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings, while Diercks also maintained a shutout, going seven innings with five strikeouts and allowing only four hits.

In Game 2, the Warriors trailed 5-1 before rallying for six runs in the bottom of the seventh. With the Warriors ahead 7-5, Logan-Magnolia posted four more in the bottom of the frame to steal the game 9-7.

The loss overshadowed an otherwise solid plate performance from Danny Solis, who went 3-for-4, as well as teammates Brandon Snowbarger and Garrett Rickels, each with two hits and an RBI.
