Records fall at Fulton Relays

(Continued)

Johnson also was part of another record performance. He followed Jack Bauer and Jace Bonnell and then handed the baton to Owens as they won the 800 sprint medley relay in 1 minute, 36.40 seconds. That was a second faster than a group from Morrison ran it in 2006.

Sterling Newman broke records in the 400 and 800 relays, and Rockridge's TJ Henry broke the other, going 6-7.25 in the high jump.

Camanche picked up wins in the 440 low-high shuttle hurdle relay, the 3,200 relay, the 400 low shuttle hurdle relay and the 1,600 relay. The Indians also earned seconds in the four-by-1,600, the four-by-100 and the 800 sprint medley. Their time in the 400 relay was below the previous meet record.

"So far, we've been winning a lot and running faster than last year," anchor man Mike Osaro said of the Indians' success in the hurdles. "We have one new guy (Shykeem Williams), and he has helped us improve by three seconds (in the four-by-110 shuttle hurdle relay). That's probably my favorite event."

The four-by-110 shuttle hurdle also has been a good event for Fulton. The Steamers took second behind Camanche on Tuesday, led by junior anchor runner Bryce Holesinger. He is enjoying his best year yet in the hurdles events and also placed third in the long jump Tuesday.

"Right now, I'm running sub-16 (in the 110 high hurdles)," he said. "Last year, I started at 16.5, so I'm hoping to get 15-flat. In the 300s, I've started off at the state-qualifying time already."

The Steamers also got a second-place finish from John Widener in the discus (132-4) and a fourth from its four-by-1,600 relay unit.

Sabers, Rebels claim titles
