---- — GOOSE LAKE — Northeast High School will unveil its new softball field with a special dedication ceremony Tuesday.

The Rebels will play host to Dyersville Beckman that night for a junior varsity-varsity doubleheader starting with the JV game at 5 p.m., with the dedication ceremony between games (no earlier than 6:15 p.m.).

“Administration and board members will throw first pitches,” Northeast athletic director Gregg Mohl said.

The field is in the same location as the old field, and parking remains the same. It is part of a construction project that includes a new gymnasium and a new baseball field.

“We carved into the hill a bit, lengthened the right-field line by 11 feet and stripped everything down. We put down a Shakopee lime infield and sodded the outfield,” Mohl said. “There’s new fencing all the way around, new dugouts, new batting cages. About the only things that are the same are the scoreboard and press box.”

The outfield fences now are 185 feet down each baseline and 215 feet to center field.

“I would have loved to have coached on this field,” said Mohl, who spent about 15 years coaching Northeast softball over a couple of stints. “It’s really nice.”

Ticket prices for Tuesday’s games are $5 for adults, $4 for children.

Construction of the new baseball field, which had to move because of the new athletic facility at the school, is moving along. Mohl has targeted June 30 for the first game there, although that could change.
