MONTICELLO — After a positive start, Northeast’s offense was shut down, and Monticello rebounded to beat the Rebels 5-2 Wednesday in a makeup softball game.
The Rebels scored twice in the top of the first inning.
Aleenah Marcucci singled with one out and reached second on an error on Kelsey Carder’s fielder’s choice. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Addie Oberman popped out, but Courtney Stoll came through with a two-out, two-run single.
The Rebels managed just three more hits the rest of the way, however, as they dropped to 12-8 on the season.
The Panthers (9-8) got one run back in the bottom of the first on Sonya McCormick’s leadoff single, a bunt sacrifice that got McCormick all the way to third and a wild pitch that scored her.
Northeast pitcher Bailey Claussen held Monticello in check for the next three innings, but the Panthers went ahead in the fifth.
Jacqueline Petersen reached on an error, took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Shay Stephens’ bunt single. McCormick followed with her third single of the game, which scored Petersen, and Stephens scored on a sacrifice fly by Kennedy Kraus.
Monticello added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth, loading the bases on a single, and error and an intentional walk and then scoring one run on a passed ball and the other on Petersen’s RBI single.
