CLINTON — Three Clinton youth golfers and one from Calamus are off to solid starts on the Iowa PGA Junior golf summer circuit.
Prince of Peace junior Connor Evers tied for first place Wednesday in the 15- and 16-year-old division of the Iowa PGA Junior Qualifier at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport. He shot a 5-over-par 77 to tie Dubuque’s Charlie Smith for medalist honors.
Evers’ round included birdies on the par-5 first hole, the par-4 10th and the par-3 17th. He made five pars as he played the front nine in 2-over 38 and had four more on the back side, where he finished with a 3-over 39.
Calamus-Wheatland’s Austin Rickertsen, won the 13-15 division of the 39th PGA Junior Qualifier on Monday at Glynns Creek Golf Course in Park View. He shot a 1-over-par 73 for a three-stroke victory. Brandon Haack of DeWitt shot a 91 in the 16-18 division.
Jacob Luett, who will be a sophomore this fall at Clinton High School, finished in a tie for third among 23 players in the 14-15 division at the Junior Tour Kick Off on June 13 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Luett shot a 4-over-par 76 to tie Caleb Peters of Johnston and finish two strokes behind winner Ryan Johnston of West Des Moines and one behind Frank Lindwall of Cedar Rapids.
Luett’s round included birdies on the par-4 sixth, par-5 eighth, par-3 12th and par-5 14th holes. He had four pars on the front, which he played in 1-over 37, and three pars on the back nine.
The busiest golfer has been Clinton’s Blake Behrens in the 11-under division, in which he has recorded a pair of second-place finishes.
His highlight, however, came during his third-place finish at the 31st annual Jester Park Junior Amateur on June 11 at Jester Park Golf Course in Granger. Although his overall round wasn’t that memorable, he had one hole he’ll never forget.
