MAQUOKETA — Maquoketa scored five runs in the first two innings to knock off Northeast, 7-4.
Maquoketa scored three in the first inning, then two runs in the second inning. They also scored a pair of runs to lengthen its lead on the Rebels.
Northeast (13-6) struck first blood as Ketzalli Dondiego hit an RBI double that knocked in Tevin Stoecker. Stoecker hit a double with one out in the third inning.
In the first six outs for Northeast, four of them were on looking strikeouts. The Rebels struck out seven times.
Northeast also scored two runs in the seventh inning when Nick Bailey hit a fly ball to left field where the ball was misplayed. Dondiego and Matt Haferbier scored on the play.
After Stoecker threw 142 pitches Tuesday night, Brad Lashelle, Jon Dobson and Haferbier shared the pitching responsibilities. Lashelle had the longest outing throwing three innings, needing 55 pitches. Lashelle allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out one.
Easton Valley sweeps
MILES — Easton Valley took care of Cedar Valley Christian on Monday, winning 6-0 in Game 1 and 2-0 on Game 2.
Blake Bormann threw a complete game in Game 1, striking out six hitters while allowing four hits. He also had a pair of doubles and an RBI in the win. Freshman Reilly Reader had three hits with two RBIs.
In Game 2, Nathan Hartung took to the mound in a five-inning performance. He allowed just one hit while striking out two, and even brought in an RBI.
Cam Larson had two hits.
Central DeWitt splits
IOWA CITY — Central DeWitt got to play at Duane Banks Field on Monday in a doubleheader against Solon, and they won the first game 2-1, then dropped the nightcap 8-3.
In Game 1, the Sabers lit up the scoreboard first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Emmit Enyeart that brought in lead-off hitter Marty Green.
