MAQUOKETA — The third inning is just what the Northeast Rebels needed.
Northeast defeated the Cardinals 3-2, and all three runs from the Rebels came in that third inning.
Aleenah Marcucci started the rally off with a single, then Jayna Farrell forced a walk. During Farrell’s at-bat, Marcucci stole second and third base to set up the big hit from Rylee Dickey.
Dickey hit a two-run double on a 1-2 count that rolled to the center field wall. Addie Oberman hit a double that brought the Rebels clean-up hitter in on the very next pitch.
Northeast was held to three more hits for the remainder of the game.
The Cardinals (8-16) scored both of their runs in the fifth inning when Bailey Lenz hit an infield single.
Maquoketa tried to get a rally going in the seventh as Lenz hit a two out double, but Courtney Stoll quieted any chance at a Cardinals comeback.
Stoll threw the final two innings as she needed 29 pitches and allowed one hit. Oberman went five innings, used 71 pitches, allowed five hits and was charged with both runs as earned.
