DEWITT — Maquoketa scored in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat host Central DeWitt 4-3 on Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the Iowa Class 4A Region 3 softball tournament.
The Cardinals (17-17) trailed 3-1 after Central DeWitt scored twice in the top of the fourth inning.
They got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, then pulled even in the sixth.
Kristin Paysen (three hits) and McKenna Owen (two hits) hit solo home runs for Maquoketa. Liz Gavin and Bailey Lenz also drove in runs for the winners.
Winning pitcher Cassie Ruppert went the distance, allowing 10 hits. Only one of the runs off her was earned.
Central DeWitt ended the season with a 13-22 record.
Maquoketa will face North Scott in a semifinal matchup at 7 p.m. Saturday in Eldridge. The Lancers are ranked 12th in the state.
BELLEVUE — Gabby Tath had two hits and an RBI, and she also was the winning pitcher as Marquette Catholic advanced in the Iowa Class 1A Region 4 quarterfinals Wednesday night by beating Springville 5-3.
Tath allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out eight batters.
The Mohawks (32-6) are back in action tonight at home against Lisbon in the semifinals. The regional final is set for Monday in Wilton.
Lisbon tops Warriors
LISBON — Lisbon scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to hand Calamus-Wheatland an 11-5 loss Wednesday in the Class 1A Region 4 quarterfinals.
Cassidy Moore had a home run and drove in four runs for the Lions (22-14), who travel to Bellevue tonight for a 7 o’clock semifinal game against Marquette Catholic. Kelsey Simpson, who went 3-for-4, and Kelsi Griffiths each drove in a pair of runs for Lisbon.
Calamus-Wheatland (21-15) tied the game 2 in the bottom of the fourth and trailed 5-4 heading into the seventh.
