---- — CLINTON — Friday's icy conditions and a major winter storm projected to hit the area later today pretty much wiped out the area sports schedule for the final weekend before Christmas.
Among the casualties was today's Clinton Holiday Invitational swimming meet.
Eight schools were slated to participate in the meet — Clinton, Marion Linn-Mar, Morrison, Muscatine, Davenport North, East Moline (Ill.) United Township and Davenport West.
The River Kings swimmers and coaches were all excited for the meet because it was one that Clinton believed it could win for the first time since 1998. Instead, the River Kings will have to wait until Jan. 9 to swim again against Davenport Central at Clinton High School.
There has been no announced reschedule date, but CHS officials said they do hope to get the meet back on the schedule.
The swimmers were far from the only Clinton High athletes to have an event postponed, however. All CHS activities for Friday and today were called off. In addition, the junior college basketball game scheduled at Clinton High's Yourd Gym between Clinton Community College and Iowa Lakes was postponed, too, and it will be rescheduled.
