Big day for Kaczinski

GOOSE LAKE — Eli Kaczinski used every opportunity to make sure he left the Northeast track on a good note on senior night. He did just that.

Kaczinski won the 1,600 meter run in 4 minutes, 44.28 seconds, and was the final leg of the 3,200-meter team that came in first at 8:24.42.

However, Camanche ruined the Rebels’ party by winning the boys side of the Northeast Coed Invitational with 129 team points. Northeast came in third with 102 points; North Cedar wound up runner-up with 110 points.

“It was a great night to run, and get out there,” Kaczinski said. “I definitely wanted to perform well in front of the home crowd, in front of fans who don’t get to road meets.”

Kaczinski was one of several Rebels seniors honored on a gloomy Tuesday night, and Kaczinski realizes how much contribution he has put into the Northeast athletic program.

“It’s meant a lot,” Kaczinski said. “I’m just really grateful to be healthy at this point, and the season is starting to come down to an end, and I’m ready to do my best.”

As part of the team championship for the Indians, meanwhile, Camanche’s Derek Harksen contributed with 32.5 points, which was more than four teams posted as a whole.

Harksen was the fastest in the 100 at 10.64 seconds, seven-tenths faster than Fulton/Fulton Unity’s Jason Osborn. Harksen also won the 200 ahead of teammate Easton McDaniel in 22.09.

In the 400, Harksen had the best time of 50.22, again edging a fellow Indian (Will Seeser). It’s not quite Harksen’s best time in the 400 this season. He got a 49.88 last week at the Clinton Invitational.

Camanche’s 400 team had Harksen on the anchor, and to repeat the theme, the Indians won there, too, with a time of 44.50.

While the Indians and Rebels were taking points, Fulton/Fulton Unity’s Bryce Holesinger got to take a hurdle home with him. Well, a broken hurdle.
