Mohawks shut out Northeast

---- — DUBUQUE — Tyler Banowetz scored a hat trick and Jordan Renner recorded the shutout in goal Friday as Marquette Catholic defeated Northeast 7-0 in high school soccer.

Ben Lawrence added a pair of goals for the Mohawks (5-5).

Banowetz opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute and scored again in the 18th off an Ethan Yeager assist.

Goals by Kole Wagner in the 29th minute and Christian Michels in the 33rd stretched the lead to 4-0 at halftime.

Banowetz scored another unassisted goal in the 56th minute.

Lawrence completed the scoring with goals in the 60th and 64th minutes.

Wagner, Damian Krabbenhoft and Michels also had assists for Marquette. Renner made three saves.

Marquette is back in action Monday at Western Dubuque.

Maquoketa girls win

MAQUOKETA — Demi Crist scored twice to back Chiara Atienza’s perfect play in net, leading the Maquoketa girls past Davenport North 3-0 on Friday.

Atienza made six saves for the Cardinals.

Crist opened the scoring, assisted by Kaleena Wilkins. Sarah Lyon scored the second goal, with an assist going to Taylor Bickford. Crist added the final goal off an assist from Amy Wirth.
