Erie gets by Fulton in 3

ERIE, Ill. — After the two teams split a pair of close games, Erie defeated visiting Fulton 25-16 in the third game to win a Three Rivers Conference volleyball matchup Tuesday.

Peyton Rus recorded nine kills and Savannah Mettler had eight as the Cardinals won 22-25, 25-23, 25-16.

Betsy Leonard recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead Fulton (1-2, 1-2 conference), while Chelsea Lesniewski added nine. Leonard also had two blocks.

Erie’s Mary Chapman led all players with 20 assists. Averi Leitzen had 18 kills to lead Fulton, while Courtney Cobert had 16 for the Cardinals.

Morrison postponed

MORRISON, Ill. — Tuesday’s Three Rivers Conference match between Morrison and Prophetstown was postponed because of the heat.

No makeup date has been set for the encounter.

Solon sweeps

MAQUOKETA — Solon, the second-ranked team in Class 4A, swept host Maquoketa 25-11, 25-23, 25-20 in WaMaC Conference action.

Aubree Taylor had six kills to lead the Cardinals, who dropped to 2-9.

Solon improved to 8-0 and has dropped just one game all season.

Sabers fall

DEWITT — Dyersville Beckman, ranked 15th in Class 3A, defeated host Central DeWitt 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 25-14 on Tuesday in the WaMaC Conference.
