High school softball Riverdale's Mosher strong in win

---- — FULTON, Ill. — Sadie Mosher was on point Thursday night, both at the plate and on the mound. Her efforts helped Riverdale earn a shutout road win against Fulton 6-0.

Mosher led the team with four hits (three of them doubles), three RBIs and 11 strikeouts. Fulton’s Katherine Wayne took the loss despite eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Fillies suffer loss

MANLIUS, Ill. — After winning seven straight conference games, Morrison suffered its first loss Thursday, dropping a 4-2 contest to Bureau Valley. The Fillies overall record dropped to 11-3.

The Storm hit three doubles as a team, scoring two runs in both the second and fifth innings. Morrison was shut out until the fifth when Chelsea Eads and Lauren Pannier each hit an RBI. Allie Wiersema threw five strikeouts in the loss.

Larson homers

THOMSON, Ill. — With the tying run on base, West Carroll held off Eastland on Thursday to remain undefeated in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball. Leading 6-4 in the top of the seventh, pitcher Allison Thulen recorded her fifth and sixth strikeouts of the night to end it.

Meanwhile, Ieshia Larson gave the Thunder the lift they needed with a three-run homer in the first inning.

“We made some unbelievable defensive plays tonight to really win this game,” coach Don Mathey said.
