Erie drops opener

WOODHULL, Ill. — Cold shooting plagued Erie on Monday as it opened the girls basketball season with a 44-27 loss to host Ridgewood at the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament.

Freshman guard Molly Shannon scored 11 points to lead Ridgewood, a co-op team with players from AlWood and Cambridge high schools.

“We struggled shooting tonight, going 9-of-49 from the floor,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “They were able to hit six 3s on us, and that was the difference. We also ran into early foul issues and struggled to play through it.”

The Cardinals got six points each from Bailee Clausen, Rachel Cobert and Emily Cox. Courtney Cobert had three assists for Erie, while she and her sister each grabbed four rebounds.
