River Bend hires new girls coach

FULTON, Ill. — The River Bend school district has hired a new varsity girls’ basketball coach for the 2013-2014 school year.

School board members approved the employment of Mike Menchaca for the head coaching position Monday at a special education meeting.

Menchaca is a native of Rock Falls with a strong background in basketball.

He attended Missouri Baptist University and is now a resident of Clinton.

He has worked with a number of talented coaches including Thom Sigel, Mike Winters, Tony Tompkins and Dave Peugh as either a player or as an assistant coach.

Menchaca’s basketball philosophy includes extending the defense and an enthusiasm for off-season workouts.

These characteristics show his dedication and passion for the game and were a main factor for his employment approval.

Also, the recommendation from River Bend Athletic Director Derek Germann played it’s role in the hiring of Menchaca for the position.
